Anyone who drives a Mercedes in Tampa knows that the seat belts on board feature state-of-the-art technology, so it may be difficult to think of how seat belt technology can be vastly improved. It is all about the buckle this time.
Soon every new Mercedes in Tampa will feature a seat belt with a buckle that will extend almost 3 inches out of the seat the minute the rear doors are opened. At this point, the insertion slot of the seat belt will become illuminated.
What is great about this new illumination feature is that it visibly makes it easier for children and others to buckle up; and this is certainly welcome since rear passengers tend to reluctantly buckle up.
After the passenger(s) has buckled their seat belt, the seat belt buckle will be retracted automatically, reducing the slack in the lower body area and securing itself more firmly. Consequently, the seat belt buckle will improve passenger safety as well as passenger comfort. A win-win in our book.
According to Mercedes-Benz, this new active seat belt buckle technology will make its way on new cars soon. Would you venture a guess as to what model these active seat belt buckle belts will first make their debut in? Our vote is on the S-Class.
