An automaker doesn't have to heed to any call outside of the market for its vehicles, but every so often, they do. Mercedes-Benz puts a lot of time and effort into making incredible cars, but they also have plenty of themselves to give to those in need, like the many victims of Hurricane Sandy's pummeling of the East coast.

In a recent press release, the president and CEO of MBUSA, Steve Cannon, said that the company's donation of $1,000,000 to the American Red Cross is intended to help the families and business owners get back on their feet. With many dealerships, headquarters and various offices and distribution centers located in the Northeast, the company is very familiar with the struggles many Americans in the area are facing as they work to rebuild their communities. MBUSA even allows qualifying employees to take time off of work to go volunteer their time in areas hit by the storm. MBUSA also has a matching gifts program, and is encouraging employees to make their own donations to help those in need.

As local Mercedes dealers ourselves, we understand the drive to give back. Though we may be busy selling Mercedes-Benz, Florida-area issues are still an important concern of ours. Car dealers aren't all greedy salespeople who want to take your money. We're people who feel compassion for our communities, and care about what's going on in the world and in our country. Mercedes-Benz is the perfect example of a big company taking steps to help out those in need. It's not just about selling the latest 2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK350. It's about connecting with our customers and the area we all live in. So congrats to Mercedes for stepping up! It makes us proud to be Mercedes dealers.
