Hybrid vehicles have come a long way over the course of the last few years, and Mercedes-Benz continues to be ahead of the curve in terms of what kind of performance one can get out of a plug-in electric hybrid these days.  Already, the brand has a number of efficient hybrid offerings, but this month at the Frankfurt Motor Show, we're going to be given our first access to an excellent new hybrid offering: the Mercedes-Benz S500.

Obviously, there already are two fine hybrids available in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the second-generation Mercedes-Benz S400 and Mercedes-Benz S350 BlueTEC ® Hybrid, but this new iteration is going to mix efficiency and performance in ways that consumers are really going to enjoy once it's available.

Specifically, the Mercedes-Benz S500 will be able to jump from 0-to-62 mph in an impressive 5.5 seconds thanks to a delightful 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine.  Paired with a lithium-ion battery, however, the car could also reach upwards of 78 MPG.  It's early in the process, so that number is clearly premature, but wherever the final number lands it's clear that Mercedes-Benz is optimistic about what this car will be able to do from an efficiency and performance standpoint.

When shopping for a new or pre-owned Mercedes-Benz in Florida, customers will someday be given the opportunity to at least consider this car, but we're obviously still several months away from that being the case.  Still, we're very excited about this new hybrid and can't wait to see it hit production sometime next year.
