As far as American auto shows go, there really isn’t anything quite like the one held annually in Detroit, which is why we think there is no better stage to introduce the brand-new Mercedes-Benz GLE than the Motor City motor exhibition.
All it takes is one look at the car to know that Mercedes-Benz is on to something really unique. Visually, it sits somewhere in between a station wagon and a crossover, but that actually is a solid idea for American consumers that want something a little smaller than a crossover but that looks nothing like the station wagons that U.S. drivers have come to avoid.
Truth be told, the hatchback body style should provide plenty of utility, yet it still will be sporty enough to satisfy drivers with more of a need for speed and power. There is an AMG® 4MATIC® trim, for example, that can make upwards of 362 horsepower, so this is far from a vehicle devoid of power.
"Despite the similarity to an SUV with its raised seating position and expansive all-round view, the occupants are led to believe that they are in sports rather than off-road mode," Mercedes-Benz said in a statement.
That sounds like an interesting combination to us, and we think of fans of Mercedes-Benz in FL are going to be equally fascinated. We'll just have to wait and see how the debut goes next month, but we're eagerly anticipating the arrival of this car. It seems to be precisely the kind of vehicle that our customers didn't even know they wanted.
Until now, that is.
