Despite the fact that modern diesel engines typically offer more efficiency than standard gas engines (and therefore longer ranges on a single tank of gas), diesel engines in the United States are still a pretty rare thing.  Only seven automakers currently offer vehicles with diesel engines, and of the thirteen new options to hit the market this year, Mercedes-Benz is responsible for two of them: the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E250 BlueTEC® and the 2014 Mercedes-Benz GLK250 BlueTEC®.

Both of these vehicles are up for "The Diesel Driver" magazine's 2014 Diesel Car of the Year award, and Mercedes-Benz is among the nominees for 2014 Diesel Car Manufacturer of the Year.

This particular accolade is kind of neat in that it places the responsibility in the hands of readers, who vote for the winner.  Last year, over 6,000 people cast their votes, and from now through March 15, 2014, you can help Mercedes-Benz and the aforementioned two cars have the best opportunity possible to take home these reader's choice awards.

While we here at Fields Motorcars, a respected Mercedes-Benz dealer in Lakeland, understand that this doesn't necessarily carry the prestige of a J.D. Power or Ward's Automotive award, we still think something geared exclusively towards diesel engines is worth winning.

Both the GLK250 BlueTEC® and E250 BlueTEC® are great vehicles, so if you're interested in trying out a diesel car, simply give us a call or stop on by and we'll get you set up for a test drive.  After you've gotten behind the wheel of one of these, your vote for 2014 Diesel Car of the Year will not be in doubt.
