There’s this expression about bridesmaids and brides, with the insinuation being that it’s never quite as fun to be the Maid of Honor as it is to be the bride herself.  Mercedes-Benz has can attest to this, since through 2011 and 2012, the brand had finished second among luxury vehicles in terms of total sales, but 2013 changed all that.  Ladies and gentlemen, Mercedes-Benz is now officially the bride.

Not literally, obviously, but they did top all luxury brands in sales last year, culminating in a December in which every Mercedes-Benz dealer in the country combined for an impressive 33,007 units sold.  That pushed the brand to the top of the luxury hierarchy with 312,534 sold in 2013, and we’re looking forward to what 2014 brings, as well.

“We saw record sales, flexed our muscles across the entire product line from top to bottom and brought the customer experience to an all-time high,” said Steve Cannon, CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA.

A big part of what worked for us here at Fields Motorcars last year was the extremely popular and affordable 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class, which sold 2,300 units nationwide in just its first week on the market.  Cannon called the CLA “our best launch in 20 years,” but we also saw big numbers from the redesigned E-Class vehicles and the always-popular S-Class vehicles.  This year, the brand-new GLA-Class hits the market, which should help Mercedes-Benz to maintain its momentum, but we’ve got to say that finishing on top feels really, really good.  There’s nothing wrong with being a bridesmaid, but every bridesmaid wants to seal the deal eventually, too.  We’re proud to have done just that in 2013.
