When we really stop to think about it, in-car navigation really has come a very long way in a very short time. As many drivers likely remember, it was only a little over a decade ago that in-car navigation devices became affordable enough to hit mainstream consumers, and in many cases those early maps had to be manually updated, meaning there were times when the actual road conditions didn’t match where the GPS device was telling the driver to go.

Of course, before that there were printed out maps and turn-by-turn directions from the internet, and before that there were plain old maps people bought at gas stations. Like we said, navigations systems have come a long way.

The most recent stop on this tour of updated maps and turn-by-turn directions, at least for new Mercedes-Benz cars moving forward, will be HERE, a software recently purchased jointly from Nokia and slated to appear in vehicles starting sometime in 2016.

For those unfamiliar with the software, HERE is, to date, the most comprehensive and accurate navigation system available, with pinpoint precision, real-time updates that adjust for traffic and adverse weather conditions and so much more. It features detailed maps for just shy of 200 countries and is available in over 50 different languages. It is, put simply, one of the most reputable navigation services out there right now, and fans of Mercedes-Benz in Lakeland are about to be given the opportunity to own cars that feature the software.

Obviously with the agreement just having been made it will be several months before HERE arrives, but the dedicated sales team at Fields Motorcars is looking forward to it, and we know our customers are, too.
