The whole purpose of Mercedes-Benz developing AMG® trims for so many of their model lines always has been to try and stay ahead of the luxury automotive curve when it comes to performance. So far, here in the United States, the brand has stayed at the forefront of people’s minds when it comes to luxury cars that also possess the ability to drive really, really fast.
Well, the good news is that nothing is going to change there any time soon. In fact, Mercedes-Benz recently announced plans to inject even more power into both the 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and GLA-Class models by boosting the drivetrains in the CLA45 AMG® and GLA45 AMG® trims.
For starters, the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine in both models will see a leap of 375 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque, both of which are pretty significant upgrades. That amounts to 20 more hp and 18 lb-ft of torque, neither of which is negligible and should be felt immediately by anybody who’s familiar with the current versions of these vehicles.
That extra juice gives these AMG® models a little extra quickness, too, which manifests itself in their zero-to-60 times. The GLA45 AMG® will now make that jump in a scant 4.3 seconds, a half-second faster than the outgoing model, while the CLA45 AMG® will do it in 4.1 seconds, a difference of 0.3 seconds.
If you’re already getting excited about these upgrades and can’t wait to come to your Mercedes-Benz dealer to test drive one, we’re right there with you, but we’ll have to wait until the fall because these won’t release until October of this year. It’s not that long of a wait, though, and believe it or not these more powerful vehicles will be here before we know it.
