When consumers buy a 2015 Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV, they do so with the understanding that it's not your typical luxury automobile. Clearly built for off-roading and trail-riding, the G-Class is a beast of an automobile meant to do big things in terms of performance that other luxury SUVs simply cannot do.

Thanks to some new engine offerings, including an excellent one in the new 2015 Mercedes-Benz G550, this vehicle line will get even more powerful. Specifically, the G550 will receive a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 capable of producing upwards 416 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. These are similar numbers to what is available in both the Mercedes-AMG® GT and Mercedes-Benz C63, which sport similar drivetrains, but the fact that the new motor is appearing in an SUV is an especially good sign for consumers that love peak performance.

Other engines in the G-Class lineup have been upgraded, as well. The G350d, for example, will see a boost of 34 hp, taking it up to 245 hp, while the G63 will go from 536 to 563 hp. Finally, there's the range-topping G65, available this year for the first time in the U.S., which will jump up to 621 hp and a whopping 738 lb-ft of torque.

As your Mercedes-Benz dealer, we're thrilled about these enhancements because they mean that some of our most powerful automobiles are going to be even more powerful than they were before. Improvement is a good thing in the luxury automobile business, and these G-Class drivetrain boosts are excellent examples of how much a little tweaking can improve a series of engines.
