For a lot of reasons, electric automobiles are pretty incredible. First and foremost they keep Lakeland, FL drivers from having to visit gas stations anywhere near as often, if at all, but they also are so much better for the environment than standard gas models that it should come as no surprise that more and more automakers are putting in good work to make sure that more and more vehicles on roads today are either hybrids or straight-up electric vehicles. In fact, there could even be a new Mercedes-Benz sub-brand devoted entirely to developing EVs and gas-electric hybrids by the end of the decade.

It’s not necessarily a new idea, but it is an idea that took some time to marinate while the market adjusted to the idea of buying these types of models en masse. Now, the automaker believes, the time finally has come for environmental-friendliness and profitability to meet in the middle.

“Many years ago we decided at the time, and I believe correctly, that [electric drivetrain] technology wasn’t quite ready,” said Wolfgang Bernhard, Daimler trucks chief in a vehicle unveiling back in July. “Now we believe the time has come to earn money in e-mobility over the next five to 10 years.”

For now it looks like there will be two electric SUVs and two electric sedans to help kick off the sub-brand. We don’t know what these vehicles will be or even what Mercedes-Benz will name the sub-brand, but here at Fields Motorcars we’re looking forward to it all the same. As your Florida Mercedes dealer, we remain committed to offering our customers some of the best autos in the industry, and we truly believe that electrified Mercedes-Benz models will be precisely that.
