You may have seen advertisements for the Google Home pod around Auburndale, FL this holiday season, for the obvious reason that Google rolled out the device in time for the gift-givingest time of the year, but what you may not have realized when you saw the futuristic-looking little cylinder is that there would soon be a way to make it work in conjunction with your Mercedes-Benz automobile, purchased right here at Fields Motorcars.
While the device is called “Google Home” and not “Google Car,” Mercedes-Benz has worked with the tech giant to ensure that owners of luxury cars will be able to complete a number of simple remote commands in conjunction with their automobiles.
"In the last decade, we've seen a range of benefits when smart technology is combined with transportation," said Sajjad Khan, vice president of digital vehicle & mobility at Daimler. "This newest integration shows just how intelligent the car of the future will be, and we plan to roll out more applications as the year progresses that will make daily life even more accessible and convenient."
Some of the ways in which this will occur is by doing things like remotely locking or unlocking vehicles (or just checking the lock status), remote starting the vehicle to get the air conditioning started ahead of time, and even checking the fuel or charge level of a given automobile. A voice command to Google Home can make that all of that happen, with more commands likely coming soon, even when you can’t even physically see your automobile.
The partnership is set to debut in early 2017, and there’s a very good chance that it could completely change the way you interact with your vehicle. That, at least, is what Google and Mercedes-Benz hope to see happen.
