While the Super Bowl has come and gone, many fans of Mercedes-Benz in Florida are still feeling the thrill of the event thanks in large part to the special edition Mercedes-Benz G550 that was unveiled in the week ahead of The Big Game.

It was all part of a publicity stunt in San Francisco to take good advantage of all the extra people floating around the Bay Area in the days leading up to Super Bowl 50. Essentially, Mercedes-Benz built an outside parkour track for SUVs called Iron Schöckl with the intention of showing off the off-road abilities of some of the brand’s more rugged automobiles. Obviously the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is one with the capabilities for driving on alternate surfaces, so it makes sense that it would be included among the vehicles on display.

This particular “Super Bowl 50 Edition” of the G550, however, featured a shiny gold exterior and was given its first go-round by actor Jamie Foxx, who definitely seemed to enjoy the experience in so lavish and muscular an automobile.

Under the hood of the G550 (including this ostentatious special edition) lies a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 capable of generating an impressive 416 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. The transmission is an automatic and the SUV features all-wheel drive with a low-range transfer case. There are electronically-locking front, center and rear differentials, as well, making it possible to do some really fun work off-road.

Special edition or not, this is a top-rate luxury SUV, though a gold one driven by Jamie Foxx as part of a Super Bowl 50 promotion is admittedly even cooler than usual. Consumers who buy this vehicle love this vehicle. Our only regret is that we don’t have a fun off-road course for a test drivers to use when they visit us at Fields Motorcars!
