Compared to many other automakers, Mercedes-Benz has been really great about adapting a policy of environmental friendliness in their automobiles, resulting in an impressive number of automobiles that offer either hybrid or purely electric drivetrains. For those that have been napping during this renaissance, Mercedes-Benz now provides PHEV offerings for GLC models, C-Class, and S-Class, while there also is a B-Class EV in the range now. Each of these works together in making the automotive world a greener place, and thus far customers here at Fields Motorcars have been overwhelmingly receptive to the new offerings.
All of this should help the brand usher in as many as four new electric models over the course of the next few years. The plan, according to the Mercedes-Benz head of research and development Thomas Weber, is to have this quartet of new models ready to roll for the 2020 model year, and as your Florida Mercedes dealer we can say with absolute confidence that we’re already emotionally prepared for the arrival of these models. We think our customers are going to be pretty excited, too.
While we don’t have a lot of specifics yet about what these models may be, Weber did seem to think that two of them would be sedans and two of them would SUVs. The C-Class and S-Class would make sense as the sedans since they already boast the hybrid drivetrain, while the GLC and GLA would be logical possibilities for the SUVs. All four of them would shoot for a range of at least 250 miles, which would be a big improvement over most EVs released in the last couple of years.
There also has been talk in recent years about a hybrid AMG® model, or an EV with a range of well over 300 miles, but so far those are more theoretical ideas than realities. These four hybrid models, however, look bound to happen, and we’re excited to welcome them to our facility in the next few years.
