Last month we talked about the Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV and what a monstrous off-road automobile it is, but as it turns out that ode to the sport utility vehicle was just a teaser for bigger things to come. As it happens, Mercedes-Benz is planning a new, more muscular version of the Geländewagen to be called the G-Class 4×4², and here at Fields Motorcars, we’re very much looking forward to showing it off to Lakeland, FL customers in need of an off-road behemoth like this one.
Here’s what we know about the vehicle, which is scheduled to arrive at your Florida Mercedes dealer later this fall. Aesthetically it looks more or less the same as its G-Class siblings, but this particular iteration of the vehicle is built on a stronger frame with a number of extra off-road hardware, which include things like portal axles that raise the driveline and extra gears to push power from the engine to the wheels, creating up to 17 inches of ground clearance. There are also special off-road tires, a specially-tuned suspension, and dual stabilizer bars, all of which work in concert to make this SUV a monster off-road.
The extra height and width of the vehicle also has the added bonus of giving the Mercedes-Benz G550 4×4² a prouder stance, which is saying something considering the appearance of the other models in the G-Class. It truly is a mammoth automobile.
While we don’t carry a lot of G-Class models, there usually is one or two on-site, so if you’re interested in test-driving one in preparation for the arrival of the new iteration, come pay us a visit sometime soon and one of our sales professionals will get you all set up. You’ll be begging for non-pavement surfaces within minutes of getting behind the wheel.
