Every automaker in the industry wants to be known for developing automobiles that shock and surprise customers in all of the best ways. The Mercedes-AMG® GT R, for example, is about as surprising and shocking a vehicle as the automaker has produced in recent years due mostly to the speedster’s sleek looks, vibrant green paint job and rip-roaring engine, but it’s not just your Mercedes dealership near Auburndale, FL that thinks the vehicle is a true work of art with some truly innovative features. At this year’s inaugural EXPERIENCE COMPOSITES trade fair, the Mercedes-AMG® GT R was given the event’s first-ever Innovation Award.

“We have systematically geared the entire structure of the new AMG GT R to performance using our expertise in composite materials,” said Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG® GmbH. These composite materials, which consist mostly of carbon fiber, are the best way to keep the curb weight down on vehicles like this one, and when it comes to cars that plan on competing in any sort of motorsports, weight loss is a big deal in shaving off seconds from a run.

In fact, the Mercedes-AMG® GT R was given the Innovation Award for its creative use of carbon fiber composite materials, as well as an overall lightweight design, but those carbon fiber parts have the added bonus of increasing torsional stiffness by 7.5%, creating a smoother drive for a vehicle capable of traveling at rather high speeds.

While not every Fields Motorcars customer can afford to have a conversation with Mercedes-Benz Financial about bringing home one of these drag-strip stars, the fact is that Mercedes-Benz always is working to innovate however they can with all of their models. This one just happens to be extra lovely and extra fast.
