We continue to hear a lot about the dawn of the self-driving era in the automotive industry, and we know that many of the new advanced safety technologies that appear in Mercedes-Benz luxury cars for sale these days are helping make that driving autonomy more of a reality than it ever has been.

In fact, the forthcoming 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class models will offer more of this technology that any Mercedes-Benz vehicle before it. This includes DISTRONIC® adaptive cruise control, which automatically adjusts speeds around curves, intersections, and highway ramps, while adding vehicle-to-vehicle communication capabilities, remote parking, and the integration of map and navigation data to assist in the car’s autonomy.

This adds to existing features like lane-keeping assistance, standard adaptive cruise control, and frontal collision avoidance, but the all of these features show how this new Mercedes-Benz S-Class model will be closer to driving by itself than ever.

To put the exclamation point on this fact, Mercedes-Benz manufacturers recently rolled the first of these new vehicles off of the assembly line, after which the completed models simply drove themselves away from that production line directly to the plant’s loading area, all without any human assistance. It’s a trip that is almost a mile long, making the gesture a symbolic one representing the progress the automaker has made in terms of autonomous driving.

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class models will find their way to our facility in the coming months, but in the meantime several of our other current models offer similar advanced safety techs if you’re interested in seeing how self-driving vehicles work in real life. The technology is, quite frankly, very impressive, and it’s only going to get more impressive from here as Mercedes-Benz engineers integrate more and more advanced safety features into these self-driving automobiles. Stop by Fields Motorcars and let our experts show you what Mercedes-Benz vehicles have to offer.
