There are scores of different Mercedes-Benz vehicles worth getting excited about here at Fields Mercedes of Lakeland, but for months we can’t seem to go a day without having customers ask us whether or not the Mercedes-Benz X-Class pickup truck will be made available for buyers in the United States. For months, we’ve had to tell these eager fans, “No, Mercedes-Benz has said this one isn’t coming over here.”
Fortunately, we have good news here at Fields Motorcars: Volker Mornhinweg, the head of the Mercedes-Benz Vans division, recently told Reuters that he was keeping its eye on consumer demand for the pickup in the United States. In other words, if the uproar is loud enough, there is a very realistic chance that the industry’s first every luxury pickup could find its way to your friendly Mercedes-Benz dealership serving Lakeland, FL. Mornhinweg even went so far as to lay out a hypothetical production location.
"With the Mercedes-Benz pickup, we will close one of the last gaps in our portfolio," Dieter Zetsche, Daimler chairman and head of Mercedes-Benz, said back in October when the vehicle first was unveiled. "Our target: We want to offer customers vehicles matching their specific needs. The X-Class will set new standards in a growing segment."
While every Mercedes SUV and sedan is a lavish stunner, inside and out, the Mercedes-Benz X-Class pickup would add a whole new dimension to the product lineup and almost certainly would carve itself a nice little niche regardless of where it was sold. For now, all we can do is sit back and wait for more news, but it sounds like the possibility is growing that this vehicle could find its way into Floridian garages.
