It has been well over a year since the first Mercedes GLC models were introduced to Lakeland, FL customers, which means it was only a matter of time before the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) got its hands on one and was able to perform its series of tough crash tests on it. Thankfully, the lauded Mercedes-Benz GLC crossovers performed incredibly well on these tests, which is great news for the drivers and passengers that wish to enjoy elite safety in their luxury SUVs.

More specifically, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC vehicles earned top marks of “good” on all five of the IIHS crash worthiness tests, while also earning a superior rating for its frontal crash prevention system and a “good” rating for its headlights. This mix of ratings was enough to earn the vehicle the top designation that the IIHS hands out: the Top Safety Pick+.

To earn this designation, a vehicle must offer that frontal crash prevention as at least an optional feature, but the 2017 and 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC vehicles come standard equipped with that and many other advanced safety features. Frankly, safety is a major consideration for engineers when developing Mercedes-Benz automobiles, so it’s nice to see one of the automaker’s more popular ones score as well as it did on the IIHS tests this year.
