New Mercedes-Benz GLS SUV Debuts

Currently, the largest Mercedes-Benz SUV available to customers in Lakeland, FL is the Mercedes-Benz GLS, and while there has been quite a shift toward smaller crossovers over the last several years, that doesn’t mean there isn’t still a market for a larger vehicle—especially when that model is on the receiving end of a major refresh for the new model year.

The next-gen Mercedes-Benz GLS debuts at the 2019 New York Auto Show this month, and as your Lakeland Mercedes-Benz dealership, we already are looking forward to stocking this vehicle at our facility later in the year.

For starters, Mercedes-Benz has announced that the vehicle will feature a longer wheelbase stretched out by 2.4 inches to give passengers more legroom, while it also gets the latest and greatest infotainment goodies, including huge, gorgeous digital displays and a touchpad/click wheel hybrid infotainment controller. It also is slated to receive all of the automaker’s most updated advanced safety features.

A small 48-volt electrical system also will make the new GLS-Class models “mild” hybrids. It won’t drive on electric power alone, but this battery will boost efficiency. For those that would rather have muscle than efficiency, early guesses are that a sportier V8 AMG® version will find its way to existence sometime after the standard offering comes to life.

This likely will go on sale as a 2020 model later this year, and the expectation is that it competes with every other large luxury SUV in the industry. Here at Fields Motorcars, we are eager to stock it and begin taking customers out on test drives. Something this spacious and this lavish deserves to take its fair share of spins, and we’re sure it will find its way to a fair share of garages as a result of those test drives.
