If you’ve been a driver for many years, you are probably familiar with the basics of how cars work. However, sometimes problems pop up that stump even the most seasoned drivers.
If an unfamiliar icon comes up on your dashboard, our Mercedes-Benz service specialists at Fields Motorcars want to help you out with this handy guide on different warning lights.
Dripping Oil Can
If you see a light that looks like an oil can dripping, this is the oil pressure warning, and it could mean a couple of different things. You may be low on oil or your oil may be having trouble circulating in the engine.
Exclamation Point in a Horseshoe
This light is the tire pressure warning light, and it indicates that something is wrong with the pressure levels in one or more of your tires. Both under- and over-inflated tires pose a danger while driving.
Thermometer with the Letter “E”
If this pops up, you’ll probably want to pull over as soon as possible. This is the engine temperature warning, and it tells you that your car is overheating. This problem could be due to a lack of coolant.
Rectangle with a Plus and Minus
This symbol represents your battery, and seeing it light up on your dashboard could mean that something is wrong with the charging system in your Mercedes-Benz car. This issue could also be related to a bad battery cable.
Submarine
If you see a light that looks like a submarine, this is the check engine light. While other warning lights are fairly specific, this one could mean a lot of different things, such as a loose gas cap. If it’s flashing, however, it’s probably something much more serious.
