It’s happened to most of us at one point or another. You return to your car after shopping, start loading bags into the backseat, and then you notice it: a small ding that you know wasn’t there before you went into the store.
You look around for the culprit, but it’s impossible to know exactly what happened or who to blame. This is an annoying and frustrating situation, but fortunately, little dents and scratches can usually be fixed pretty easily. These steps brought to you by our Mercedes-Benz service technicians can help you get your car looking great again.
Step One: Wash it
In some instances, simply giving your vehicle a good wash will be enough to remove some surface scratches. If nothing else, this should at least get rid of the paint left behind by the other car.
Step Two: Try Acetone
The next thing to do when you notice a scratch or ding on your car is to buff it out with acetone. Put a little bit on a soft rag and rub the scratch lightly.
Step Three: Use Rubbing Compound
If acetone doesn’t do the trick, try using rubbing compound. Put some on a soft cloth and then rub the scratch in a circular motion. This should remove the mark. You will then need to clean the area with polishing compound and seal it with wax.
