The Superdome, home of the New Orleans Saints has housed a Superbowl team, hosted the Pope, and as many may remember, was the site where thousands of victims of Hurricane Katrina sought refuge and endured unspeakable hardship.

In Orlando, Mercedes-Benz fans will be ecstatic to know that the Superdome will now begin a new chapter by being renamed the Mercedes-Benz Superdome after naming rights were recently sold to the luxury automaker.  The deal is good for 10 years for the 73,000-seat stadium.

This deal will highly increase exposure and marketing for Mercedes-Benz USA.  In and around Orlando, Mercedes-Benz drivers will notice the Mercedes-Benz name associated with championships in college football and men's college basketball, not to mention the New Orleans Saints.

In Kissimmee, Mercedes drivers may recall that the New Orleans Saints most recently won the Superbowl in 2010 and are known for their high-scoring offense led by one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, Drew Brees.

"A great partnership between two world-class organizations" - Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal

The deal struck between Mercedes-Benz and Louisiana will have benefits for both sides.  As a state-owned stadium, the deal will let Louisiana taxpayers off the hook for some costs.  For instance, last year taxpayers had to fork over almost $14 million for costs related to the stadium.

For Mercedes-Benz, this deal will help its marketing efforts in the U.S. and make its presence more pronounced in a country where athletics are highly visible.

In Kissimmee, Mercedes fans will certainly have their eyes on several high-profile sporting events coming up soon that will take place in the newly named Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The Sugar Bowl and BCS college football championship are scheduled in January 2012, followed by the NCAA's men's Final Four basketball championships in April 2012.  In 2013, New Orleans will play host to the Super Bowl.
