As we near the end of 2012, we all start to look toward the future. As Mercedes dealers, we're particularly interested in what's coming up for the brand, and we've recently seen some interesting information about the technology Mercedes-Benz is developing. Known for leading the pack in innovation, the new S-Class model year lineups are always highly-anticipated, so we wonder what kinds of tech features they'll be receiving in the next few model years.
Prof. Dr. Thomas Weber, Mercedes-Benz board member and head of Mercedes-Benz Cars Development, recently said that the automaker is working on endowing future models with "intelligence assistance systems", which would make use of "sensor fusion" to give cars the ability to analyze driving situations, conditions, and risks. In the interview, Weber referenced a new Brake Assist System, which can identify pedestrians and cross-traffic. There's also a feature that uses a spotlight to point out pedestrians in low light, ensuring that Mercedes drivers will see them.

Of course, we can't say for sure what we will or won't see on the 2014 S-Class models, but we're excited to learn more about the technology Mercedes-Benz is developing. Weber mentioned that the new Mercedes S-Class already has sophisticated systems that enhance safety and performance in "complex traffic situations". The goal of development seems to be increasing visibility and interaction with the environment around the car, and using both to make driving in Mercedes vehicles safer. As the models of the future become a reality, we're sure that we'll see many incredible tech innovations from Mercedes-Benz. Tampa-area drivers should take note-the biggest issues many of us face (parking, navigation, blocked visibility) may be such big issues when driving the new Mercedes vehicles.
