A lot of the recent innovations in the auto industry have come in response to certain customer needs that were not, for one reason or another, being met.  Voice-activated mobile apps and Bluetooth® connectivity are a couple of really great examples.  Increased fuel efficiency, auxiliary audio inputs for iPods, and navigation systems with real-time traffic updates are a few more.

But one problem has yet to be solved by automakers because most of those automakers probably thought solving this one wasn't their responsibility.  Mercedes-Benz, however, is thinking outside the box and piloting a kid valet service in Palo Alto, California.

The program is called "Boost by Mercedes-Benz," and it allows users to reserve a spot on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter for their children, who often need chauffeuring at hours when their parents are at work and can't do the job themselves.  This can be done using the reservation service on the Boost website, while pick-ups and drop-offs are tracked via a free smartphone app, while confirmations can even be sent through a text message.

At this point, we here at Fields Motorcars have no idea if this will be available for longtime customers of Mercedes-Benz in Florida, but we'll be curious to see how the pilot program works out over on the West Coast.  We sell a brand of vehicle that prides itself on being lavish and luxurious, and this is exactly the sort of service that nails home that point.  Whether Boost finds its way to the Sunshine State or not, we love the innovation here because it really does respond to a very specific consumer need that now has a really cool answer.
