It has become expressly clear over the course of the last few years that luxury automobiles are going to have to become more efficient if they hope to adhere to federal efficiency guidelines and, frankly, continue drawing in customers that really do want to be environmentally conscious and keep monthly gas consumption at a reasonable level.
It looks like Mercedes-Benz will do that by adding a slew of Mercedes-Benz hybrid vehicles to the stable over the course of the next few years. Specifically, the luxury auto brand will add ten plug-in hybrid models by 2017 to make sure that they're at the forefront of the move toward more efficient automobiles. While we're not yet sure what these new PHEVs will be, there are a number of great Mercedes-Benz models that could benefit from a hybrid drivetrain.
Further, Mercedes-Benz has rebranded its current PHEV range by designating them with the letter “e,” thereby simplifying the nomenclature. The Mercedes-Benz C350 Plug-In Hybrid, for example, will henceforth be known as the Mercedes-Benz C350e. Any new hybrid models will be named the same way.
The C350e will serve as the first new PHEV, while an S-Class PHEV (S550e) will release this year, too. Beyond that, one can only guess as to which vehicles will get the hybrid treatment. For the environmentally-conscious fan of Mercedes-Benz in FL, this is all very good news, and we're looking forward to seeing what models end up joining the hybrid ranks at the top of the Mercedes-Benz efficiency range. We'll find out in due time, but there's no way that all of this isn't great news for Mercedes-Benz drivers all over the world.
