Any fan of the Mercedes-Benz brand knows that the automaker has been working very hard over the course of the last few years to develop an autonomous automobile that can drive with only minor intervention from any actual human being. To drive this way, engineers have added a number of advanced safety technologies that work together in an attempt to keep collisions from happening.

One of those technologies is the Brake Assist System Plus, a pretty self-explanatory bit of engineering that allows a vehicle to brake all by itself when a forward collision appears imminent. This exact technology is requisite for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick+ designation, and it’s something that can be tacked on to a number of Mercedes-Benz models, most recently (and perhaps most notably) on the 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class models.

To advertise the benefits of such a technology, Mercedes-Benz recently released a commercial during which children played with toy cars that had magnets in the front bumpers and so could not physically bump into each other. Kids love smashing two cars together, but in this case it was literally impossible to do so.

Maybe it was a little mean to give kids a toy they couldn’t use the way they were accustomed to, but the adorable (and funny) ad does a good job proving its point. This is a revolutionary safety technology that will save a whole lot of lives in the coming years and we relished the opportunity to gain more insight into the product. The real thing is something of a modern marvel, and as your local Mercedes-Benz dealer, we love selling them almost as much as your customers love taking them home!
