Any Lakeland drivers who have ever watched Saturday Night Live know that they do satire better than just about anybody else in the business. This year in particular, with so many political primaries and colorful presidential candidates, the long-running sketch show has drawn quite a bit of attention to itself for all the right reasons, as people love exactly that kind of humor.

Of course, when it comes to parodies the jokes typically come at the expense of the aforementioned politicians or television commercials for faux medicines and products. Sometimes, though, the parodying of a jab can be fun rather than scathing.

The higher-ups at Mercedes-Benz must have been pleasantly surprised to see that one of their models was brought in for a special parody commercial in the April 16th episode of SNL, especially because unlike a lot of other false ads, this one wasn’t ripping on any real manufacturer of cars. In fact, the fictional new Mercedes-Benz AA-Class car in the commercial simply served as a literal vehicle for a rather a silly idea: a car that runs entirely on a plethora of AA batteries.

The gag, pitched by “Veep” star Julia Louis-Dreyfus, imagines a future of electric cars that doesn’t require any sort of pesky charging, so instead it uses the energy of 9,648 AA batteries to power the car. In the ridiculous commercial, once one battery dies, the user just replaces it, though there’s a good chance they’ll be changing hundreds of them every day. It really is just that easy!

As your Florida Mercedes-Benz dealer, we can tell you with absolute certainty that no such car is being designed by the automaker, but it’s always fun to be in on a joke, and this was one that we enjoyed quite a bit here at Fields Motorcars.
