The way things are today, with every automaker on the face of the planet putting so much time, money and energy into developing as many respectable green autos as possible, it’s hard to remember the time when luxury automakers weren’t all that interested in developing a wide range of hybrid, plug-in, or full-on electric automobiles for their respective ranges.

So much has changed over the course of the last ten years, however, as it has become clear that consumers are interested in Mercedes-Benz hybrid models more than ever before, not only because they’d like to spend less time visiting gas stations but also because of their positive effects on the environment.

And while there are a pleasant handful of hybrid models already available in the Mercedes-Benz canon, including the popular C350 Plug-In Hybrid and offerings in the E-Class and GLE-Class, the plan apparently is to introduce even more to the roster over the course of the next 3-5 years. According to Daimler AG board member Ola Källenius, there could be as many as ten new plug-in hybrid vehicles added by the 2020 model year, and if everything goes according to plan that would mean about 10 percent of all Mercedes-Benz models sold would be plug-ins. As your Florida Mercedes-Benz dealer, we can get on board with that, as we’ve seen the huge demand for green vehicles right here in Lakeland.

While the brand currently sells only a modest number of hybrid models, a commitment to developing more of them in the guise of models fans already love could go a long way toward boosting those numbers. For the sake of steering clear of the gas pump and genuinely helping the environment, this idea seems like a good one, and we can’t wait to see how it’s enacted over the course of the next three years.
