What the rest of the world sees as “advanced safety features,” those in the business of engineering automobiles see “advancement toward autonomous driving.” Frankly, new Mercedes-Benz cars get smarter and more capable every passing model year, and the forthcoming 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class will put the exclamation point on that advancement by adding some new safety technologies that make these automobiles smarter than ever.
Take, for example, the latest updates to the Active Steering feature, which now can manage lane changes safely with little assistance from the driver. All it takes is a little tap, and the car will begin looking for a safe place to change lines. If that space doesn’t open up in ten seconds, the car automatically turns back over to the driver, who would then need to tab the stalk again to repeat the command.
The new advanced safety software also can automatically determine the speed required to take a corner based on how fast you’re currently driving, how much traffic there is, and even the angle of the corner itself.
Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC®, or what most would call “adaptive cruise control,” also has been upgraded to feature different driving modes. In “sport mode,” it’s more aggressive around corners. In “comfort mode,” the drive is much more relaxing, while “eco mode” moves slowly but maximizes fuel efficiency.
All of these updates to Intelligent Drive make your vehicles smarter and safer than they ever have been, and while we can’t show off all of these new features in test drives just yet, customers in and around Auburndale, FL can stop by Fields Motorcars any time to have a look at our new and pre-owned Mercedes-Benz models that do feature earlier versions of Intelligent Drive. The tech will amaze you, but why should we expect anything less from the good people at Mercedes-Benz?
